How To Unlock Unlimited Motivation, And Create A Roadmap For Success.

If you are like me, I struggle with motivation to start new projects. Looking at a blank page with no clear starting point holds me back. But once I start, and make a small amount of progress I naturally gain motivation to follow through. 99% of the time it's a lack of direction that holds me back. Not having a system to work off of was the number one thing that held me back from starting. So today I am going to outline how I unlocked unlimited motivation and created a roadmap for success for myself that you can tailor to your own business or creative process.

Creating A System

Creating a system for success is vital for unlocking unlimited motivation in your daily workflow. Start by creating a system that outlines your process step by step, so you never have to guess what you are doing next. Below I have outlined my system for writing newsletters and articles.

Step 1: Research, And Finding A Topic

I start by finding a topic I can write my own perspective on. I do this by going on Youtube, Instagram, or Medium and consuming content I find interesting. I then save any content I connect with, reflect on it and craft a “thesis sentence”.

For this guide, I saw the following post by Sahil Bloom and was inspired by his point of view on motivation.

After reading through his post, I ask myself the following:

  • How can I add my own perspective to this?
  • How do I use the same systems, thinking, or process in my own daily workflow?
  • Lastly, how can writing about this help readers?

After answering these questions I use my thesis sentence as my writing prompt, and move away from the original content I was inspired to write from since I want to write about my own unique perspective on the topic.

For this newsletter, my thesis sentence was “ How To Unlock Unlimited Motivation And Create A Roadmap For Success.”

Step 2: Validating Your Start Point and End Goals.

Next, we need to validate our starting point and end goals so we can create a roadmap for success.

I always start with my end goal, because you can never define the path you need to take unless you know where you are going. To validate our end goal we need to answer the following questions.

  • How does this goal motivate me? ( Financially, Emotionally, Spiritually, Etc.)
  • How obtainable is this goal if I dedicate myself to it fully?
  • Last, how will this goal shape my future? ( Will it grow your business? Will you learn something new? Will you gain a larger network)

By asking these questions we can validate if your end goal aligns with your core values and your goals for your business, or if it will help you expand your income, skillset, or network. Once you have validated your end goal and made sure you are 100% committed to it, we can begin reverse engineering the success of those who have already achieved this goal.

Research people who are ahead of you and how they have achieved success in the goal you are going after. Read their content, watch their videos, dissect their newsletter, and you will easily be able to reverse engineer their success.

There are no secrets when it comes to success. 99.99% of the information you need to accomplish your goal is in front of you in the form of those who have already accomplished your goal.

Step 3: Implement A Outline Or Proven Structure

After validating my end goal and starting point for a newsletter or guide, I use Typeshare to implement a proven writing structure. In the case of this guide, I use the “How To Guide” format, which gives a proven outline on how to structure your writing into a How-To Guide, with clear instructions and calls to action.

This works for me as writing is not my primary background, and gives me the confidence to implement my ideas into writing structures that have proven to work. After writing my initial draft of the newsletter I let it sit for 24 hours, and edit it with fresh eyes the following day.

After editing is completed I will hand it off to my girlfriend to read and give me her thoughts. I will then use that feedback to cut the fluff from the newsletter or, add sections where clarity is needed. Then the newsletter is designed and scheduled to go out at 8 AM on Saturdays.

Having a clearly defined process in place helps me write each of these newsletters in 1 to 2 hours depending on the length.

Now for other projects such as design, marketing, or video editing, I have created a different outline. Feel free to steal this and use it if you are a creator. As all projects will have their own outlines that are unique to the work you are doing.

The key to any outline is to identify a starting point, an endpoint, and baby steps in between. Clearly define all steps in the process so anyone could follow it, then cut out any steps that are redundant.

My Design Outline For Most Design/Branding Projects:

  1. Identify project goals, and project expectations ( What are the final deliverables, when are they needed by, client expectations, and clear final use cases.)
  2. Create mood boards and gather references for the project that line up with the client's goals, and visual design style
  3. Meet with the client to go over goals, and mood boards, and identify exactly what they are envisioning down to the smallest details so the first round of work is as close to done as possible.
  4. Create the first round of designs following the identified project goals, and agreed-upon creative direction
  5. Present the first round of design solutions and review if any revisions are needed.
  6. If revisions are needed complete those as needed, If the first round was spot on move into the final delivery of project assets.
  7. Prepare all design files for handoff detailed at the beginning of the project, and collect final payment for the remaining project total
  8. Once final payment is received, hand off the final files via google drive or dropbox
  9. Meet with the client to discuss file implementation, and debrief on the project to see if anything else is needed, or if you can upsell them on any further services they may need

Having a clearly defined process like this makes it easier to start projects, work through them, and present work to clients. Having this standard operating procedure in place helps kick start every project, so I have a clearly defined roadmap for each milestone, but also motivation to reach each step.

Step 4: Work Through Your System And Troubleshoot Any Problems

After creating a system, work through it and see if you run into any problems.

The following problems may appear and are totally normal when first implementing a new system into your workflow.

  • Your system is too complex (cut out unnecessary steps that lead to extra work)
  • Your system is unclear, and you get stuck on a step (identify what is missing, and add a step where you are getting stuck)
  • You are not reaching your end goal ( Rework your steps to align with your end goal)
  • Your end goal does not need a system ( This usually means you do not fully understand your end goal if you cannot implement steps to reach it.)
  • Your system is too simple ( You are overthinking the process, “simple” doesn't always mean bad)

Once you have identified any possible problems ask yourself the following questions:

Is the problem related to my end goal or my starting point?

If you answer yes to this question. We need to look at your starting point and end points and look back at step 2 to make sure you have validated your starting point and end goals properly.

Once you have identified your core problems in your system, solve them, and go through your system again to make sure your updated system works properly.

Unlocking Unlimited Motivation

After creating a system you will have a roadmap to follow for success. The key to tapping into unlimited motivation is to be always moving forward.

Getting stuck in one place is the enemy of progress, and will stop you from starting new projects that will challenge you. If you are not uncomfortable, learning, and adapting you are not making progress.

In order to understand unlimited motivation you need a system that reduces friction between each step. Most people do not achieve their goals because they get hung up on one small detail, or they do not have a clear path forward.

By reverse engineering success and creating a tested system to work off of you can always stay motivated.

This process can be applied to any goal you have whether it is making more money in your business, working on your fitness, or building out a more robust creative process, creating core systems is vital to long-term motivation.

When you are tired, stressed, or on a time crunch having a go-to system for success will be the key thing that will get you from your starting point to your end goal.

This is the no-bullshit way to leverage your knowledge, and skill set to work for you. Once you have a system in place you can teach it to others and leverage their time and energy, or even go a step further and sell your system for success to create another source of income.

Again there are no secrets to success or motivation, it just comes down to having systems in place that make moving toward your end goals easy, and mindless.

Good systems get you from beginning to end with a clear direction.

Great systems get you from beginning to end seamlessly.

This is the number one way to unlock unlimited motivation in your business, team, or single-person business so you can reach your goals easily through discipline, dedication, and drive.
